Hi all, I lived the racing life from 1973-82 then went back to "real" life when I just couldn't take the "Business" aspect of the business.

I groomed around the Detroit, Windsor, Toledo circuit. Owned a couple, trained a few, drove a few fair races and basically got allot of life lessons from the harness business. As most owners I have had my ups and downs in harness racing. Won Hambo in 86 with Nuclear Kosmos. Spent too much at Lana Lobell in same year. Came back to harness racing 3 years ago, purchasing part of Crazed (second in Hambo 2008) at the yearling sale and his full sister Gift Card. My trainer Frank Antonacci Jr. has 3 traits that I love. He's a helluva nice guy. He's honest. He's one heck of a trainer. I also must say I could not ask for better partners.

HOLY SMOKES folks! My boyfriend and I just purchased our first yearling colt together yesterday. Talk about bizarre, I didnt even know the colt was going to be at the sale because he was for private sale. We were walking up the aisle looking for another horse that I wanted to check out and there he was! I have been looking at him for MONTHS now. I can not believe it after all this time I now have one to call my own! 10 years of paddocking and taking care of others horse like there were my own...

Good board, interesting discussions.
I'm a journalist & student (Environmental Engineering program) who has followed harness racing since childhood. (Used to order Stbd. sales catalogues as a teenager while other girls were drooling over "Tiger Beat", lol!)
Used to ride a retired Maine pacer. Have worked as a saddle horse & t-bred groom. Have been wagering for years, mostly online now. No track within close distance of me in NS (Canada), so when on vacation...

I wouldn't mind if some of you guys and gals could show me how to get involved through this web site. If you have any tips for a newcomer I would sure appreciate any info. I've been in harness racing since I was pretty much born, I love the sport. I'm now doing other careers but I seem to always come back and wonder how the horses are doing. So if you all could help me get involved I sure would do my best to stay involved from here on out. Please let me know.

Guys, I have been reading "Crazy Good" it is a very interesting book.

A QUESTION: When the original owner Dan Messner sold Dan Patch to the McHenry client...there was a hint that threats were made towards Dan Messner. Then Messner lost a filly in his country barn due to poisioning.

How many think McHenry was a part of the threat or the poisioning? Or I would be interested in other opinions and comments on the book "Crazy Good".

Liberty Bell and Brandywine

Is there anyone out there from the old Liberty Bell, Brandywine circuit? That's where I got my start in harness racing. I worked for Jack Smith Jr. and Jimmy Larente among others. There were some great races and great horses. Anyone want to share any memories?

Jimmy Larente was the best horseman I ever worked for, he could take the rankest, greenest horse and have them acting like a gentle puppy in no time. Anyone remember Mr. Overnight, Goodtime Lou or Sea Lord?

I have never driven in a race. But, that is not to say I would not enjoy doing it. I would love to pull the lines over the rump of a good trotter. The thrill of a race --the horses going behind the gate, their veins in their neck standing out, the sweat on their body and the sound of the their feet hitting the ground. Man, that is what it is all about. I love the sport of harness racing.

As an owner and Equine member of USTA I am hoping there are people out there who have Performance Standardbreds, that are doing wonderful things in the world beyond Racing.

I realize that most people here are probably involved in the racing end of the breed but I hope there is room here for those of use who compete in many many differnt phases of the horse world.

I run National Barrel Horse Assoc. here in RI with my Jate Lobell son Slam Dunk...

I am a small breeder and I have noticed that the Allamerican Natives are racing well. In 2007, 31 of the 64 sold brought less than $6000 at the sales and a bunch of them sold for less than $2000. What is the scoop on Native and his offspring?
