dk and charley ..... I do understand the Ohio situation. But this clip from my previous link states that MI is saying racinos are in the mix ....

The four-member Board of State Canvassers, a state elections panel, approved unanimously the wording for a constitutional amendment submitted by Racing to Save Michigan, a group led by officials at Hazel Park Harness Raceway. Five of the casinos would be at horse racing tracks.

We're on the same wavelength here but it looks like my terminology is confusing our discusion. To me a "racino" is a racetrack with any type of additional gambling being offered, not just slots.
My point about OH horsemen being helped was that MI stables would be less inclined to travel to Ohio and take home purse money that the OH stables desperately need. That's all.

But the bottom line is the situation in both states stinks and can be pretty confusing depending on which reports you read. This whole thing reminds me of the battle years ago in Delaware with the staunch anti-slots people, from the Gov on down, winning out and eventually was the demise of my favorite track - Brandywine.
