Yearling Sale on the 'Net |

OnGait.com has recently announced a two week yearling sale on-line. Do you think this
will fly? Or do you prefer seeing the horse in the flesh, sort of speak? It will be interesting to see what the results will be. Would you buy a horse on-line.....period???

this is interesting but i really doubt that they will pull many yearlings for the sale but im willing to bet the few that do show up will probly be bargins it
would take a major farm to jump on the band wagon to make this work & i cant see that happening

Wont fly Orville.....Horsemen need to see the conformation from many angles and prefer them to lead off so we can see them in action a tad. Like to check
airway with fingers, ect....and if we are talking major bucks, we want the colt scoped and vetted out with xrays at the ready.

Sales Roster | #3 | ||
|
With a couple of more weeks to enter, the sales roster is small as expected. Most of the horses are located in Kentucky. I don't recognize any of the
mares but that doesn't mean much. If your a gambler, this sale is for you.

Maurice is a pretty sharp guy - he must have a plan for this sale to fly. I've sold alot of yearlings and weanlings for that matter without the buyers
ever looking at them. I don't think the sale is going to just take off this year but in time I think it will be a go.

internet auctions are used successfully in Sweden, and have been for some time - but that is mostly mares for breeding. There have been some yearlings and two
year olds offered at these auctions but the prices offered have never been very high.

Internet Yearling Sale | #7 | ||

I just looked at some of the bids and I don't believe these bids are for real. Either the owners or the owners friends are bidding on these yearlings to
make them look like they're special. They're looking for someone to bid in. I've seen some of these yearlings and they don't look like the
money thats being bid on them. If they were going to bring this kind of money on the internet unseen then they should be in Harrisburg and get the real
money. You don't even know that the video your looking at is the yearling in the sale. Maurice will do alright but buyer beware.

BVD, Good Luck with the auction. There are some nice horses in that sale but alot of them are way over priced and they are junk.

BVD, I had the same thing happen to me only it was on a stallion share two years ago. I ended up buying a share of the stallion a little later on so not so
bad. I noticed some of the yearlings had a bid on them that I thought was a fake bid by the owner. Sure enough that yearling is on the site again this
time the owner is looking for 3k less than the bid was on the web. They must think everybody out here is a schmuck.

Protection Bids | #14 | ||

You would be surprised how many owners/trainers "protect" their horses if they don't sell what they think they should sell for.(happens mostly at
mixed sales)

RickyRod wrote:The owner bids the horse in at a over priced bid. The owner is hoping that someone will over bid him, but on a horse of that caliber nobody is going to bid on the yearling or horse. If the owner wanted to protect his horse all he had to do was put a "RESERVE" on the horse and then if the horse doesn't bring what the owner or trainer thinks the horse is worth the horse is not sold. You throw the horse back in the trailer and bring him back home and feed him for another year. When I put a horse in a sale - whatever it brings is what it brings - I don't bring them back home. I don't bid on my own horses or have my friends bid on them either. To me that is like cheating. Your as much as saying your horse is not worth much if you have to bid them up. |
