Most of the time, the best horse can overcome a bad post draw. However, there is a downside to the new rule change. Let's say next year there are eighteen horses in the box. Instead of two divisions with trailers, you will have three races with six horses. As far as gamblers are concerned, horrible betting opportunites. Then if you get a scratch, it gets even worse. It may not matter that much for Delaware which draws more fans than gamblers than a regular track does but it will help kill handle seriously at an extended pari-mutuel track as the big gamblers will pass on the race.

I understand horsemen want to be on the gate (though if they drew post eight, they may be happy with the second tier) but you are turning off the gamblers. This is another case where people are forgetting who is paying the bills in horse racing. We want to think it is the owners, but it is the gamblers who help fund the purse account (at least at non-racinos). How much would these races be going for if there was no betting?

People, this is another case where we are saying the heck with the customer and are looking for our own self interests. Ticking off the customers (gamblers in our case) is not a good thing for business. In the long run, it is a bad rule change.
